What is the project?

To achieve and maintain Dark Sky Park status, an official recognition of low levels of light pollution and good public access

What will the project achieve?

International recognised Dark Sky Park status
New street lighting in communities
New or altered lighting at distilleries, farm buildings and residential properties
Official dark sky viewing sites and public access infrastructure
Information on TGLP website, leaflet
Events and activities
Improved night time environment because of reduced glare from unnecessary and / or poorly adjusted lighting.

What has been done so far?

A series of presentations about the night sky, galaxies and stars.
Sky quality monitoring with Tomintoul and Glenlivet primary schools.
Draft application prepared for submission to the International Dark Sky Association to achieve Dark Sky Status.
Lighting Amnesty launched for domestic lighting and local Distilleries undertaking lighting changes to improve the dark skies of the area. Farm lighting work has commenced.
Light Management Plan and Sky Quality Survey are complete.
Consultation on going with stakeholders.
