What is the project?

To achieve and maintain Dark Sky Park status, an official recognition of low levels of light pollution and good public access

What are the main achievements?

  • International recognised Dark Sky Park status awarded on 29th November 2018. Dark Sky Park Launch event video
  • New street lighting in communities.
  • New or altered ‘dark sky friendly’ lighting at distilleries, farm buildings and residential properties.
  • Official Dark Sky Discovery Sites and public access infrastructure.
  • Logo for the Tomintoul & Glenlivet – Cairngorms Dark Sky Park developed.
  • New Dark Sky Park entry signs on 3 main roads.
  • Information on area and visitor facing websites.
  • Dark Sky Park leaflet and Light Amnesty leaflet produced.
  • Events and activities held.
  • Improved night time environment because of reduced glare from unnecessary and / or poorly adjusted lighting.
